The Time My Dream Became True// Advice on achieving life goals

“Dreams is not what we see in sleep, it is what doesn’t let you sleep.”

Abdul Kalam

Since I was in High school, I always wanted to own a Camera. I really have true love for photographs because they make moments last forever. I always want to capture moments: from random and funny nights with siblings, hangouts with friends to shiny sun or colorful leaves in the Fall. As a gift when I graduated from High school, my parents gave me an canon camera and I was able to take picture whenever I wanted.

Years after, I was still dreaming about owning a DSLR camera (Digital Single-Lens Reflex camera). At the beginning of 2015, I did not have a job and I did not see at the time how I would be able to afford a camera that would cost me more than 400 Canadian Dollars. I just put it on my goals list and there is no single day I did not believe I was going to buy it before the end of this year. Thank God, I got a job and I started working around September.(You cannot imagine how thankful to God I was). For me, “camera” was the only thing that would come out of my mouth if someone asks me what I will do with my first paycheck. Of course, I knew I would have to save more to be able to get the one I wanted but at least I was seeing my dream slowly coming to a reality.

October 14, 2015 – 1:00 pm I am calmly having brunch with my favorite roommates (my brother and my sister) when I randomly go on the website I usually go to for electronics and I see this huge sale. Then I start talking about either I should buy it or wait and see if there is no better deal in the coming weeks. My sister, goes:”buy it! Why would you wait? Buy it now!”

Around 2:00 pm: I can’t believe I just bought the camera of my dreams. It says it will be delivered the next day but there is no specific hours (and that simple thing drives me insane. Why don’t they give an estimated time at least?).

October 15, 2015 – 8:30 am The crazy girl that I am can’t sleep! I don’t have classes but I also can’t keep calm. I keep tweeting about it and telling my friends that I have a surprise for them. haha! Yes, my friends are cool like that. They will turn up with me when they know, my mind thinks.

Around 11:00 am I really can’t keep calm, I keep checking through the window if there is nothing at my door. The brother is annoyed, haha!

Some time in the afternoon(I was no longer looking at the clock), the package is finally here. Oh em Gee!!! I can’t help jumping in the house now. I unpack it, take pictures of it and share with friends and family. My cheeks are sore from smiling. It is pure happiness.

You are maybe getting tired reading my reaction as I purchase my first DSLR Camera but what my main message is: never let go on your dreams. No matter how hard it can be to reach them, you will get there if you work hard for it. It was not easy for me to get a job, but I did not stop believing in me. I got out of my comfort zone and did crazy things but the joy I have now is truly priceless. So get up and believe in yourself, achieve your goals! The power is in yourself, my friend!

What is the one goal you want to achieve before 2016? How are you working to reach it? Comment and let me know.

Thanks for reading!

’til Next Time

  1. I was the same when I got my first DSLR, I was lucky, mine was a very generous gift, long story. I can remember the glee I felt every time I took a picture and experienced the sound of an actual shutter closing and how from that moment on every mundane thing I had been looking at all my life, I looked at with new eyes.
I hope you enjoy your camera as much as I do mine, the world is now your oyster 🙂
