For the past few years, I have asked myself this question: “How can I celebrate this day if I have to be in school all day?” and today was no exception. Waking up on kind messages of course warmed my heart but is it enough? I spent a couple minutes reading all the messages I received and I realized that they were not only from my female friends but my male friends too and you can guess how that made me feel. I felt very proud. Proud of how far women have come, proud of what we have accomplished, proud of my mother and other women’s hard work, proud to see that some men (not all of them still) appreciate the women in their lives and understand that the fight for equality is not a battle for women only but for everyone.
But still, what can I do to celebrate this day? Am I supposed to just send back these messages with a cute emoji and move on? Maybe, but that wasn’t quite enough for me. Hence the idea of this post…
I am indeed a huge fan of quotes. I wish I could have quotes of all walls in my house. Like this…
So I made a list of my favorite inspirational quotes to celebrate women’s day. Be cool and share in the comment which one speaks to you the most.
- “Every man I meet wants to protect me. I can’t figure out what from.” — Mae West
- “As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world.” — Virginia Woolf
- “Women have always been the strong ones of the world. The men are always seeking from women a little pillow to put their heads down on. They are always longing for the mother who held them as infants.” — Coco Chanel
- If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” — Margaret Thatcher
- “I am woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.” — Maya Angelou
- “I want to be that feminist who changes the World” — Sarah Nannyondo
- “I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves.” — Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
- “I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is. I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute.” — Rebecca West
- “A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. — Eleanor Roosevelt
- “We must tell girls their voices are important.” — Malala Yousafzai
- “How can we effect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participate in the conversation?” — Emma Watson
- “If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” — African Proverb
- “I look forward to the day when half our homes are run by men and half our companies and institutions are run by women. When that happens, it won’t just mean happier women and families; it will mean more successful businesses and better lives for us all.” — Sheryl Sandberg
- “I hate men who are afraid of women’s strength.” — Anaïs Nin
- “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” — Michelle Obama
Happy Women’s day to everyone!
